This week I am exploring the world of augmented reality. I was told about the beautiful story The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce. This beautifully illustrated book is about a man's love for reading. My brain is overflowing with ways to incorporate this wonderful story into my first grade day. This book is amazing by itself but then comes an app called Imag.N.O.Tron. When an iPad camera is placed on the page, the page comes to life. The iPad reads the story as actions, interactions, and sounds come off the page. I can't wait to share this with the kids.

The second augmented reality activity I would like to try is with the coLar Mix app. The web site has free, and some paid, downloadable papers that kids can write and draw on. When their illustration is used with the app the illustration becomes a 3-d image. I grabbed the award winning book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds from our library and printed the free downloadable paper that the app needs to work. We will respond to our reading (Write Tools Activity) by drawing our own art and see it comes to life.

I can't wait to see the awe and creativity that emerge from these activities!
